Psychedelic Kale Juice

I wanted to share my Psychedelic Kale Juice recipe with instructions first before jumping into my recipe reviews. Yes I will share some of my own personal recipes from time to time and YOU can be the judge. It is a fun fresh juice that i make using my Jack La Lane Juicer that I bought from Walmart for about $100.
Okay I imagine you are thinking "Kale in juice?" YES kale in juice! It is surprisingly delicious and healthy.

First lets talk about your juicer. There is a juicer for every kind of budget. When I purchased my Jack La Lane juicer I had intended to spend less and purchase a Hamilton Beach juicer but my boyfriend had convinced me to spend a little more. I was a bit upset that my local Walmart didn't have a breville juicer, but I recommend doing a bit of research and checking reviews before buying a juicer to ensure you are making a good investment as juicers can be a bit costly.

Here is a photo of my juicer all set and ready to make me some breakfast. Notice there is a plastic bag placed inside the pulp bin? Lining my pulp bin with a grocery bag or a produce bag ensures a quicker and easier clean-up of the machine.
Okay now that your machine is all set up it is time to get your ingredients prepped for the juicing process.

Ingredients
  • Two hefty handfuls of Kale
  • Two Green Limes
  • Two Apples (Any kind I used Granny Smith)
  • One Cucumber
  • Six Carrots
This recipe should yield around 32 Fluid ounces.

I like to prep the carrots first as they are the hardest veggie/fruit I will be juicing in this recipe. I like to chop the ends off the carrots and chop them in half before washing them thoroughly.

The next step is rinsing the apples with cold water before cutting them into quarters. Always remember to pull off the stems, this could potentially damage your juicer if you do not. I leave the seeds in the apple as I have never had any issues with them damaging the juicer.

Next I like to cut my limes into quarters so peeling them is a bit easier. I have heard of people leaving the peels on but I can't imagine it tastes as good as with the peels off.

I like to waste as little cucumber as possible. I cut off the tips of the cucumber and wash it well. This is really the secret weapon to making a delicious green juice in my opinion.

Now that we have all the ingredients prepped and ready to go we can start juicing. Turn on that juicer and let it rip! I always juice in a certain order. Juicing the kale and greens first then working from the softest ingredients to the hardest.

The kale does not give much juice, but don't let this discourage you! What kale juice you do get is very potent and packed with nutrients to get your day going.

After the kale I usually juice the cucumber and the limes. Juicing limes is the most enjoyable fragrant part of the juicing process. Take a deep breathe and let the citrus waken your senses.

Go ahead and juice those apples followed by the carrots. Sometimes my juicer gets a bit fussy with the apples and has a hard time so I will juice a couple slices of apple followed by a couple carrots and this prevents my machine from loud vibrating sounds.

After you have juiced all your ingredients your cup should look similar to this. This is the crucial part to making your juice look Psychedelic. Take a spoon and mix it lightly in a clockwise motion for only a couple seconds.

If done correctly your juice should look like this. But be warned if you pour it into another cup it will all mix together and turn brown! Which of course does not affect the way the juice tastes. If the color bothers you try putting the juice in a cup that is not transparent.

Here is what the juice looks like poured into a glass. Don't let the color discourage you. It tastes fantastic, and is quite affordable. So won't you give it a try? Let me know what you think in the comments below.
